Reference may be made to the following patents as the closest known at the time of filing this application: U.S. This invention is directed toward providing a flatiron with means for effecting such cooling. In pressing open seams of items of apparel made from high polyester content fabrics with a flatiron (usually an electric steam hand iron), difficulty has been encountered in that the fabric has a tendency to straighten out and close the seam once the flatiron has passed by due to slow cooling, and it has been found desirable to provide for rapid cooling of the fabric as it is pressed to set the fabric in the pressed-open position. This invention relates to a flatiron with work cooling means, and more particularly to a flatiron with means for blowing air downwardly on work being pressed to cool it. A flatiron as set forth in claim 8 wherein the bracket comprises a metal strip bent to V shape and having its ends twisted to lie flat on top of the body of the iron and being secured thereto, the stem being received in the apex of the V, and wherein a clamp screw is provided between the sides of the V forward of the stem for drawing said sides together to clamp the stem. A flatiron as set forth in claim 7 wherein the diffuser is mounted on the iron by means of a bracket secured to the top of the body of the iron extending rearwardly beyond the rearward end of the iron, the stem being mounted at the rearward end of said bracket and being adjustable up and down.ĩ. A flatiron as set forth in claim 6 having a tubular stem extending upwardly from the center of the head, said flexible air line being connected to the upper end of the stem, air flowing downwardly through the stem to the head.Ĩ. A flatiron as set forth in claim 5 wherein said head is of curved form with its bottom containing the air exit slot convex.ħ. A flatiron as set forth in claim 4 wherein said head is an elongate hollow member having an air exit slot extending lengthwise thereof at its bottom.Ħ. A flatiron as set forth in claim 2 wherein said diffuser comprises a diffuser head extending crosswise of the iron rearward of its rearward end above the bottom plane of the iron.ĥ.

A flatiron as set forth in claim 2 having flexible conductors between said switch and valve.Ĥ. A flatiron as set forth in claim 1 wherein the valve is a solenoid valve and said means at the forward end of the handle is a switch having an operating member positioned for engagement by the thumb.ģ. A flatiron having a body and a handle on the body, an air diffuser mounted on the flatiron in position rearward of the rearward end of the body of the flatiron for blowing air downwardly on work being pressed with the iron to cool the work as the iron passes thereover, a flexible compressed air line extending from a source of compressed air to said diffuser, an on-off valve for controlling flow of air through said line to said diffuser, and means at the forward end of the handle operable by the thumb of the user's hand when on the handle for actuating the valve.Ģ.
